Summer School "Interactive Innovation" [11.10.23]
The University of Hohenheim recently concluded the second Summer School of the I2connect project, an intensive educational event that took place from September 11 to 15. It brought together a diverse group of early career scientists and students pursuing their doctoral and master's degrees at European universities and focused on advisory insights and concepts, particularly in the area of innovation.

This meeting focused on an in-depth exploration of the Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System (AKIS), an extremely important concept that serves as a crucial link between the various actors in the agricultural sector. It promotes collaboration, information sharing and ultimately drives innovation in the sector.
But the content went beyond theoretical concepts. Participants explored how to build and maintain innovative networks. This experience underscored the central role that advisors play in advancing innovation and sustainability by connecting scientific principles with practical applications.
The highlight of this academic journey was the hands-on experience. Participants visited real farms and were able to see firsthand the complexity and success of this field. During the farm visits, our participants took a close look at the working methods of two different operational groups. One group focused on reducing energy footprint in local wine production, an endeavor with significant environmental impact. The other group was dedicated to preserving and improving ecological diversity on farms.
This Summer School was far from a compulsory academic exercise; it represented a harmonious blend of theoretical and practical learning. It was like a fusion of knowledge and action, where students used their intellectual insights to shape the future of agriculture and rural communities.
As the Summer School drew to a close, participants left with a new awareness of their profession and a deeper understanding of their role as agricultural extension agents. Equipped with new knowledge and a set of skills, they are now prepared to act as shapers of innovation, advocates of sustainability, and agents of positive change in the European agricultural landscape.
